Gutter replacement cost depends on the length of your gutter runs, the number of downpipes, the material, and whether the fascia boards behind your gutters are still sound. These are typical Hertfordshire market prices for 2026. Use them to budget. They are not our price list.
Typical prices by house type
New uPVC gutters and downpipes on a three-bedroom semi, front and back, come to £600 to £1,400. A terrace has shorter runs and comes in lower. A detached house has longer runs and more downpipes, and comes in higher. Those prices are for gutters reached from ladders or a tower, which covers most two-storey houses.
uPVC, cast iron or aluminium
uPVC is the cheapest to buy and fit, and needs nothing more than a clean. Cast iron, found on older houses and in conservation areas, costs two to three times as much and needs painting. Aluminium sits between the two on price.
Check the fascias first
Your gutters are screwed to the fascia boards. If your fascias are rotten timber, new gutters on old boards pull away. Replacing fascias, soffits and gutters together is £1,500 to £3,000 on a terrace and £2,000 to £4,000 on a semi, and doing them together means one set of access instead of two.
Repair, clean or replace?
A leaking joint or a broken bracket is a repair at £80 to £200. A blocked gutter is a clean at £70 to £150 on a terrace or semi, or £120 to £250 on a detached house. Replace your gutters when the joints keep failing, the runs sag between brackets, or the plastic has gone brittle and cracked. What moves the price
Three-storey houses need a tower or scaffold, and so does a conservatory under the gutter line. Long runs on detached houses and bungalows mean more gutter and more brackets. Box gutters, parapet gutters and valley gutters are a different job, priced after a look.
